Confidential, authorship-first academic support

Training, Workshops & Courses

Some researchers want an analysis done; others want to be able to do it themselves next time. Our training is for the second group: short courses, workshops, bootcamps and one-to-one sessions that teach research methods, statistical and qualitative software, academic writing, systematic reviewing and publishing, with practice on real projects.

Overview

Research skills are usually learned in a hurry, from generic modules taken too early or video tutorials watched too late. Our courses are designed for the point of need. Participants bring a research question, a dataset, a draft or a manuscript, and exercises are applied to that material, so the skill is practiced on the problem it is meant to solve.

The pillar covers six areas: research methodology courses; statistics and software training in SPSS, R, Stata, NVivo and SmartPLS; academic writing bootcamps; systematic review training; publishing and peer-review workshops; and the formats in which all of these can be delivered, from webinars to certificate courses to one-to-one sessions.

Training is offered to individuals and to cohorts such as a lab, department or doctoral school. Institution-wide contracts, multi-year capacity-building programs and embedded curricula are handled through our institutional services, which can draw on the same course content.

Certificates are available for attendance or completion. We are explicit that they are not accredited qualifications, do not carry academic credit and are not vendor certifications.

Who this is for

  • Master's and doctoral students who want to run and defend their own analyses and designs
  • Early-career researchers building skills for publishing and independent research
  • Practitioner-researchers in health, education, business and the public sector
  • Labs, departments and doctoral schools seeking training for a cohort
  • Academic staff who want protected writing time or up-to-date methods and publishing knowledge

How we approach this work

Teach through the participant's own project

Exercises use participants' research questions, anonymized data, drafts or target journals wherever possible, so new skills are applied immediately.

Reasoning before buttons

Software is taught with the statistics or method behind it: what a procedure answers, which assumptions it needs, how to read and report the output.

Outcomes participants can demonstrate

Each course states learning outcomes as things participants can do, and checks them through applied tasks with feedback rather than attendance alone.

Reproducible, documented habits

Syntax, scripts, project logs, protocols and writing logs are built in from the first session, so work can be checked and repeated.

Honest credentials

Certificates record attendance or completion, topics and hours. We never present them as accredited or credit-bearing qualifications.

Frequently asked questions

How is training different from tutoring or coaching?

Training follows a planned syllabus with defined outcomes, often for a group, and ends with an applied task. Tutoring and coaching are ongoing, responsive one-to-one support. Many people take a course and then book occasional tutoring for follow-up questions.

Can a department or lab book a closed course?

Yes. Closed courses are tailored to the group's disciplines, data and requirements. Contracts covering a whole institution or several cohorts over time are arranged through our institutional services.

Are courses live or recorded?

Mostly live, online or in person, because practice and feedback are central. Input segments can be recorded, and blended options combine recorded material with live clinics.

Will training replace my supervisor's guidance?

No. Training builds general and applied skills; your supervisor knows your project and program requirements, and their guidance takes precedence where they differ.

Do certificates count toward a degree or CPD?

They are not accredited and carry no academic credit. Some institutions and professional bodies accept them as evidence of development activity; that is their decision, so check before enrolling if it matters to you.
