Choosing within qualitative analysis
Qualitative approaches differ in what they are for. Reflexive thematic analysis identifies patterns of meaning across a dataset and suits many applied and exploratory questions. Content analysis ranges from counting categories to interpretive coding of texts, while discourse analysis examines how language constructs meaning, identity and power. Grounded theory aims to build an explanatory theory from data through constant comparison, and interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) explores in depth how a small number of people make sense of a particular experience.
Choosing between them depends on your research question, epistemological stance and sample. If you have already chosen an approach but need help with the software side — setting up an NVivo, ATLAS.ti or MAXQDA project, organizing codes, running queries or exporting evidence — the CAQDAS service covers that. In every case, the interpretation remains yours; we help you apply the method rigorously and document it.
