Physics, Chemistry & Biology Tutoring

Science exams test three things at once: understanding a model, using it quantitatively, and applying it to an unfamiliar experiment or data set. Tutoring works on all three, with particular attention to the calculation and data-handling steps where many students lose marks.

Overview

We tutor physics, chemistry and biology from lower secondary through introductory university courses, including the sciences in IB, A-Level, IGCSE, AP, the French spécialités and national curricula. For university students we cover first- and second-year modules such as classical mechanics, electromagnetism, general and organic chemistry, cell and molecular biology, genetics and physiology.

Each science has characteristic stumbling blocks. Physics students often have the concepts but not the mathematics, or vice versa: they can recite Newton's laws but can't draw a correct free-body diagram. Chemistry students frequently struggle with the mole concept, equilibrium and, later, organic reaction mechanisms. Biology students face a large volume of terminology and processes, and exam questions that reward precise, mark-scheme vocabulary and data interpretation. Sessions are built around these known difficulties and your own diagnostic results.

Practical and investigative skills matter more than many students realize. IB sciences include an internal assessment investigation, A-Level sciences have required practicals and a practical endorsement in England, and AP sciences include lab-based questions. We teach experimental design, uncertainties, graphing and evaluation using practice scenarios, so you can plan and write up your own investigations.

Who it’s for and the problems it solves

This is for you if you are…

  • Secondary students in physics, chemistry, biology or combined science
  • IB, A-Level, IGCSE, AP and French lycée students preparing for exams or practical assessments
  • First- and second-year university students in physics, chemistry, biology, biomedical or engineering programs
  • Pre-medical and health-science students who need to consolidate core sciences
  • Students whose weak math is holding back their science

Common problems we help with

  • Physics problems fall apart at the free-body diagram, units or vector components
  • The mole concept, limiting reagents and concentration calculations remain confusing
  • Equilibrium, acid–base and thermodynamics questions mix concepts and math in ways you can't untangle
  • Organic chemistry feels like memorizing endless reactions instead of understanding mechanisms
  • Biology answers lose marks for vague wording even when you know the idea
  • Data-analysis and experimental-design questions (uncertainties, variables, evaluation) feel unpredictable

How it works

  1. Share your course details

Tell us the subject, level and syllabus or exam board, your textbook or lecture notes, and recent tests or feedback.

  2. Diagnostic

Short conceptual questions, a few calculations and one data-based question show whether the gap is conceptual, mathematical or technique.

  3. Concept and calculation sessions

Each topic moves from the physical or biological picture, to the model, to quantitative problems of increasing difficulty.

  4. Application and practicals

We practice unfamiliar contexts, data questions and experimental design, which are where top-band answers are separated from the rest.

  5. Exam preparation

Timed past-paper questions, mark-scheme comparison and targeted review of recurring errors.

How science sessions are run

Model-first explanations
Starting from a physical picture, particle diagram or biological process before introducing equations, so formulas have meaning.
Structured problem solving
A consistent routine for quantitative problems: sketch, list knowns and unknowns with units, choose principles, solve symbolically, then substitute and check.
Mechanism practice
Organic chemistry taught through electron movement (nucleophiles, electrophiles, leaving groups) so reactions become predictable rather than memorized.
Mark-scheme literacy
Comparing your answer with mark schemes and examiner reports to learn the precision expected for command terms such as 'explain', 'outline' and 'evaluate'.
Data and uncertainty work
Practicing absolute and percentage uncertainties, error bars, lines of best fit and identifying systematic versus random error.
Simulations
Using interactive simulations, such as PhET-style tools, to explore relationships that are hard to visualize, from circuits to wave interference.

Where students usually get stuck

These are the topics we check first, because they sit underneath much of what follows.

  • Physics: resolving vectors, drawing free-body diagrams, distinguishing velocity from acceleration graphs, and energy conservation with friction
  • Chemistry: moles and concentration, Hess's law cycles, Le Chatelier's principle versus the equilibrium constant, buffer calculations and oxidation states
  • Organic chemistry: identifying nucleophiles and electrophiles, SN1 versus SN2, stereochemistry, and multi-step synthesis routes
  • Biology: protein synthesis, respiration and photosynthesis pathways, genetic crosses with linkage, and interpreting experimental graphs

Investigations and practical work

Investigations are assessed differently across systems: the IB scientific investigation, A-Level required practicals and written practical questions, and lab-based free-response questions in AP sciences. Tutors can teach how to frame a researchable question, identify and control variables, estimate uncertainty, and evaluate limitations, using example scenarios. The investigation you submit, including its data, analysis and writing, must be your own, and we follow your teacher's guidance on what help is allowed.

University-level science

University courses move faster and assume more mathematics: vector calculus in electromagnetism, differential equations in kinetics, and statistics in biology practicals. We help you connect lecture content to problem sheets and past exams, and we build the math support in when needed. For lab reports, our lab report coaching focuses on structure and scientific writing.

What the work can look like

Illustrative example — fictional data

Sample learning plan excerpt: A-Level-style chemistry

A fictional student found equilibrium and acid–base topics confusing six months before exams. The plan below is invented to illustrate structure and level of detail.

Diagnostic summary

Secure on bonding and energetics. Gaps: rearranging Kc expressions, confusing strong and concentrated acids, and pH calculations for weak acids. Math: logarithms need review.

Weeks 1–4

Equilibrium: dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier's principle, Kc calculations with ICE tables. Logarithm refresher alongside. Practice sets mix new questions with earlier energetics questions.

Weeks 5–8

Acids and bases: Brønsted–Lowry theory, pH of strong and weak acids, Ka and pKa, buffers and titration curves. Then two timed exam-style papers with mark-scheme review.

Illustrative plan with an invented student. Real plans follow your syllabus, exam board and diagnostic results.

Every project is quoted individually. How we price our work.

Questions people ask before starting

Can one tutor cover physics, chemistry and biology?

At lower secondary and combined-science level, often yes. At IB, A-Level, AP or university level we usually match you with a tutor for each specific science, because depth matters more than convenience.

Can you help with my IB internal assessment or lab report?

We can teach the skills behind it: choosing a focused research question, experimental design, uncertainties, data processing and evaluation, using other examples. We don't design your investigation for you, write any part of it, or produce data. Your teacher supervises the assessment and sets the limits on outside help, which we respect.

How do you teach practical skills online?

Through data sets, photos and videos of setups, simulations and structured design exercises. For hands-on technique you'll rely on your school or university lab, but many practical exam questions test reasoning that can be practiced well online.

My problem is really the math. Should I book math tutoring instead?

If the difficulty is limited to rearranging equations or unit conversion, science tutoring will include that math in context. If it goes deeper, like calculus in physics, a few sessions of math tutoring alongside may be efficient.

Do you use exam-board-specific past papers?

Yes. We use the past papers, specimen papers and mark schemes that your board or program publishes, and we pay attention to recent specification changes so you don't practice outdated content.
